Fall-Line Motorsports Overcomes
Adversity at Mid-Ohio
June26, 2006, Lexington Ohio- It seemed like everything that could be thrown at
Fall-Line Motorsports was this weekend at The Emco Gears Classic
Grand-Am Cup 200. From a tornado, to a motor swap, to an
electrical problem during the race, The Fall-Line Crew stood up to
the challenge in their first Grand-Am Cup race weekend
.
The Mid-Ohio Sports car course’s ever changing
weather was the first of the challenges, with a tornado blowing
thru the paddock just as the Thursday afternoon practice session
completed, the team rushed back to the transporter just in time to
save the awning from being completely destroyed, and secured the
equipment, cars, and awning. Unfortunately, the support trailer
which was in a different area did not fare as well. An onlooker
said that it was lifted into the air, flipped on its side, and
moved 50 ft to its new resting place on its side.
The
second challenge, and the biggest, was the need to complete an
engine change in the #28 M3 within 80 minutes in order to get on
track for qualifying. The teamwork was incredible, and Mark Boden
was in the car and
on track in time to get one flying lap, and a 35th
place position on the grid for the race on Sunday. “It was pretty
cool to see some of the other teams crews, and the pit/grid
marshals applauding as I went down pit lane to qualify, the team
really stepped up on this one” said Mark Boden. The 2nd Fall-Line
Car, the #182 M3 with Kevin Buckler behind the wheel qualified in
37th position.
Sundays race presented one last challenge. At the start of the
race Kevin Buckler ran strong in the #182 as did Mark Boden in the
#28 until a lap 14 electrical glitch caused a throttle problem and
while it was being fixed, the #28 car went down 4 laps to the rest
of the field. Mark continued to run strong after the car was
fixed, and turned the car over to Steve Jenkins in great shape.
Steve ran strong, and gained a few positions before multiple full
course cautions made it impossible to move up further and left the
#28 car in 27th position.
“The car was strong, and our laptimes show we could have run
near the front, unfortunately we were put way
behind not long after the start. Then came all the
yellows, which made it really tough to move up” commented Steve
Jenkins.
R.J Valentine took over the #182 car and ran it to a strong
23th place finish overall. The weekend was certainly eventful, but
the outcome was a success” said Steve “For our first foray into
this level of racing, I think the whole team showed that with a
couple more races under our belt, we’ll be a force in this
series. More Pics
